SCK•CEN- Belgian Nuclear Research Centre

As a research centre dealing with peaceful applications of radioactivity, SCK•CEN is an indispensable part of society. SCK•CEN performs forward-looking research and develops sustainable technology. In addition, the Centre organise training courses, offers specialist services and acts as a consultancy. With more than 700 employees, SCK•CEN is one of the largest research centres in Belgium.

Throughout all of its work, there are three research topics that receive particular attention:

  • Safety of nuclear installations
  • Well-thought-out management of radioactive waste
  • Human and environmental protection against ionizing radiation

VUB - Vrije Universiteit Brussel

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is a modern university who offers education to more than 10,000 students at two parkland campuses in the Brussels Capital Region. High quality education and research are central issues. The research teams (2500 people) are internationally recognised in many disciplines of fundamental and applied research whereas the large-scale University Hospital of VUB, UZ Brussel, has more than 3500 employees spread over all medical specialties and is accredited as a European cardiology training centre. The ophthalmology department of UZ Brussel is also recognised as a modern resident training centre with much research experience in pediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology. The VUB will contribute to the multidisciplinary BELCOLORE-project by the expertise of the researchers from the Health Physics department as part of the research team Medical Imaging and Physical Sciences  and by the expertise in imaging of the Optometry and Ophthalmology Department.

CESI is an external health and safety at work service (SEPP). Our role consists of monitoring the well-being of workers in affiliated companies.

Well-being at work covers all factors relating to working conditions: health and safety of employees, psychosocial support, ergonomics and occupational hygiene.

CESI provides professional assistance to companies and organisations in terms of managing their health and safety policy, providing training and offering services aiming to improve staff well-being, particularly in the areas of health monitoring and risk management.

The CESI Scientific Fund works in partnership with and contributes towards projects to support companies with their health and safety policy, building upon the expertise developed and applied by universities and professional associations.

The non-profit association IDEWE is the largest Belgian occupational service for well-being at work (external service for prevention and protection at work). Its two divisions ‘Medical Surveillance’ and ‘Risk Management' offer a comprehensive selection of services to companies and organizations.
